    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, then remove the center floor console. Next, take out the large clips and disconnect the cable ends at the shifter mechanism. Pull back the carpeting to remove the three bolts securing the airbag ECU to the floor and set the ECU aside. Remove the plastic shield at the lower left of the heating/air conditioning unit, followed by the nuts securing the shift cable plate and grommet to the floor. Remove the large clips that secure the cable ends to the transaxle, then separate the cables from the cable bracket on the transaxle. Under the vehicle, remove the two nuts securing the cable bracket to the floor, then pull the cables and grommet through the floor and out. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

    Q:
How to adjust and replace the shift cable on Toyota Corolla? Posted by Customer
    A:
When the shift lever inside the vehicle is changed from the Neutral position to another position, it changes to a new position seamlessly, and exactly to the required position, with the shift indicating the correct position. If the alignment of the indicator is off, the position of the shift cable can be adjusted by first loosening the swivel nut located on the manual shift lever at the transaxle before moving the manual lever down to the Park position and back up two notches to the Neutral position, this action should be accompanied by making sure that the shift lever found inside the vehicle is also in the Neutrual position before completing the process of fastening the After such correction, it is necessary to ensure that the functioning of the transaxle is checked in each position of the shift lever, to work in the Park and Neutral only the starter. For replacement, the negative battery cable should be disconnected, then the cable which is coming out of the tie bar shield, the large C-clip cable retainer on the bracket which is above the manual lever. Subsequently, and to gain access to the Boarding Data Sheet, it was necessary to remove the floor console, together, with portions of carpeting ahead of the floor tunnel as well. The nut screws fastening the airbag ECU to the floor should be loosened and aside because shift cable is below the ECU. The bolts which are attached on the cable housing retainer on the floor inside the vehicle need to be unfixed, likewise, the cable should be detached by prying the ends off from the shift housing and eye must be unbolted from the shifter. The cable and grommet has then to be pulled through the floor pan again and while installing it again should be noted that the same should be done in the reverse order followed during removal of the floor pan while after adjustment of the cable should also be made.

    Q:
How to adjust and replace the shift cable on Toyota Matrix? Posted by Customer
    A:
Where there is a change of gear selection from one Neutral position inside the vehicle to another it should be smooth and precise with the shift indicators displaying the exact position of the specific gear. If the specified indicator is untidy, then the shift cable may be adjusted by loosening the nut for shift lever on the transaxle and moving the manual shift lever down into the PARK and then into NEUTRAL position and then moving it two notch from the NEUTRAL position, at the same time ensuring that there is also NEUTRAL indication inside the vehicle by tightening the swivel nut firmly while holding the lever slightly towards the REVERSE After these adjustments, the working of the transaxle has to be tested in every shift lever position; the engine has to start only when the shift lever is in the Park and Neutral positions. For replacement, the cable should be connected to the negative terminal of the battery and the cable would be disconnected from the manual lever followed by the removal of the large 'C' clip cable retainer. Thus, the mount on the cable accessible at the floor entails the removal of the floor console, carpeting, floor ducts, floor panel brace, and the exhaust pipe. The component to be checked in the black dome connected to the steering wheel is the airbag ECU, which is removed after loosening its securing bolts, and before this is accomplished, other bolts that are a part of the cable-housing retainer should also be removed. The cable ends can then be pulled off the shift housing and the eye of the cable can then be removed from the shifter. The cable and grommet need to be pulled through the floor pan, the process of installation is the process of reversing at the same time, if the cable end is serrated, before connecting to the arm, it must be placed on the floor-shift assembly; After a period of installation, the adjustment must be made.

    Q:
How to disconnect and remove the shift cable on Toyota Matrix? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the center console and the upper and lower center trim panels. Pull back the carpeting and remove the fasteners securing the airbag ECU to the floor, then set the ECU aside. Remove the large clips and disconnect the cable ends at the shifter mechanism, twisting the cables to separate them from the bracket. Remove the plastic shield at the lower left of the heating/air conditioning unit, then take out the nuts securing the shift cable plate and grommet to the floor. Remove the large clips that secure the cable ends to the transaxle, and separate the cables from the cable bracket on the transaxle; in some later models, it may be necessary to drop the exhaust pipe for more working room. Under the vehicle, remove the two nuts securing the cable bracket to the floor, then pull the cables and grommet through the floor and out. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
