Disconnect the hoses from the radiator and insert a garden hose into the top inlet. Flush with clean water until it runs clear. If necessary, use a cleaning agent or reverse-flush the radiator. To flush the engine, remove the thermostat and insert a garden hose into the top hose. Flush until clean water emerges from the bottom hose. Refit the thermostat and reconnect the hoses. When filling the cooling system, ensure all hoses and clips are in good condition and tight. Use an antifreeze mixture all year round to prevent corrosion. Slowly fill the system until the level stabilizes in the radiator and expansion tank. Start the engine and top up the coolant levels as needed. Allow the engine to cool and recheck the levels. If there are symptoms of overheating after draining and refilling, there may be trapped air in the system. Gently squeeze the coolant hoses and bleed out any trapped air. Check the radiator top hose for heat output and, if necessary, unscrew the caps or loosen the hose clips to release trapped air. Finally, inspect the pressure cap and replace if damaged.
