Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. If the stereo in your vehicle is equipped with an anti-theft system, make sure you have the correct activation code before disconnecting the battery. Raise the vehicle and secure it on jack stands. Remove the heat shield from the coil by removing the screws and separating the heat shield from the coil. Remove the mounting bolts from the coil electrical connectors by removing the nuts from the coil terminals. Using an ohmmeter, check the coil by measuring the resistance between the positive and negative terminals. Compare your reading with the coil primary resistance. Measure the resistance between the positive terminal and the high tension terminal. Compare your reading with the coil secondary resistance. If either of the above tests yields resistance values outside the specified amount, replace the coil. To replace, detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. If the stereo in your vehicle is equipped with an anti-theft system, make sure you have the correct activation code before disconnecting the battery. Remove the heat shield from the coil by removing the screws and separating the heat shield from the coil. Label and disconnect the wires from the coil terminals. Remove the coil mounting screws and lift the coil from the distributor housing. Installation is the reverse of removal.
