When the turn signal and hazard flasher relay is operating, one can hear a clicking sound from the part. If the turn signals work on one side and the flasher unit is making its characteristic clicking sound, but the flasher rate is much faster on one side than the other on the instrument cluster, or if a bulb in a turn signal does not come on and all the lights on the other side flash rapidly, a turn signal bulb is dead. If both left and right turn signals do not blink the problem may be a bad flasher unit, a faulty switch, a blown fuse or loose connection. A visual examination of the fuse box may shake out a blown turn signal fuse; however, it is wise to examine the wiring for a short before putting in a new fuse. The turn signal and hazard flasher relay is very easily accessed, it is mounted behind the knee bolster, right at the end of the instrument panel junction block. In order to remove it, the knee bolster must be taken off, then the relay is situated on the instrument panel junction block assembly, the electrical connector has to be disconnected from the flasher unit and then the flasher unit has to be taken off the assembly. As much as possible, make sure that the replacement unit is the same as the unit replaced, which can be done by comparing the new and old units just before the installation which must be done in the order opposite to the removal process.

If the relay fails the test, it should be replaced.
