Toyota 31204-17010 Fork Sub-Assy, Clutch Release

To remove the component, first disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then remove the transaxle. Next, detach the clutch fork from the ball stud by pulling on the retention spring, followed by the removal of the bearing and the fork. For inspection, hold the bearing by the outer race and rotate the inner race while applying pressure; it should turn smoothly, and if it doesn't or is noisy, replace the bearing/hub assembly. Wipe the bearing with a clean rag and check for damage, wear, and cracks, avoiding immersion in solvent as it is sealed for life. Also, inspect the fork for any cracks or bends. During installation, fill the inner groove of the release bearing with high-temperature grease and apply a light coat of the same grease to the transaxle input shaft splines and the front bearing retainer. Lubricate the fork ball socket, fork ends, and release cylinder pushrod socket with high-temperature grease. Attach the release bearing to the fork, ensuring proper engagement if a retaining clip is used. Slide the release bearing onto the transaxle input shaft front bearing retainer while passing the end of the fork through the opening in the clutch housing, and push the clutch fork onto the ball stud until firmly seated. Finally, apply a light coat of high-temperature grease to the face of the release bearing where it contacts the pressure plate diaphragm fingers, and complete the installation by reversing the removal procedure.

To remove the transaxle, place it on a clean work surface. Slide the Release Bearing on the input shaft and disconnect the spring clip from the Clutch Fork fork tip. Rotate the spring clip to clear the Clutch Fork and remove the bearing. Pull the Clutch Fork away from the transaxle and push it towards the input shaft to release it from the fulcrum stud. Clean the bearing and inspect it by turning the inner race. Clean the Clutch Fork and inspect the fork tips for wear. Apply grease to the bearing, clutch disc spline, Clutch Fork fulcrum stud, and Clutch Fork fork tips. To install, reverse the removal steps and ensure the Clutch Fork spring is properly attached to the fulcrum stud.

Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the transaxle. On models that use a retaining clip, make sure it engages properly with the lever. Slide the release bearing onto the transaxle input shaft front bearing retainer while passing the end of the clutch fork through the opening in the clutch housing. Push the clutch fork onto the ball stud until it's firmly seated. Apply a light coat of high-temperature grease to the face of the release bearing where it contacts the pressure plate diaphragm fingers. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

Remove the clutch release lever from the ball stud, then remove the bearing from the lever. To do this, reach behind the release lever and disengage the lever from the ball stud by pulling on the retention spring, then remove the lever and bearing.
