    Q:
How to remove and install the oil pans in V8 engine on Toyota Sequoia? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the lower oil pan, first take off the lower engine splash shield by removing the bolts, lowering the shield, unhooking it from the body, and then removing it. Next, drain the engine oil. Remove the bolts and nut securing the lower steel oil pan and detach it, using a small screwdriver or putty knife to pry it loose if necessary, ensuring not to damage the mating surfaces. For the upper oil pan, drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter. Remove the engine from the vehicle. On 2UZ-FE engines, take off the timing belt, idler pulleys, crankshaft pulley, and crankshaft sensor if the oil pump is being removed. Remove the oil dipstick tube, oil filter, oil cooler, and oil filter bracket assembly. Detach the lower steel oil pan as before, then remove the baffle plate. Next, remove the bolts and nuts securing the upper oil pan to the engine block, detaching it carefully. Remove the oil pump strainer. For installation, scrape off old sealant from the block and both oil pans, clean the mating surfaces, and ensure the threaded bolt holes are clean. Check the lower oil pan for distortion and flatten it if necessary. Inspect the oil pump pick-up/strainer assembly for cracks and blockages, cleaning it if removed, and install it with a new gasket, tightening the fasteners to the specified torque. Apply a 3/16-inch wide bead of RTV sealant to the flange of the upper oil pan, position it on the engine block, and install the bolts, tightening them in three or four steps from the center out. Install the baffle plate, then apply a 3/16-inch wide bead of RTV sealant to the flange of the lower oil pan, position it onto the upper oil pan, and install the bolts, tightening them similarly. Complete the installation by reversing the removal steps, adding oil, installing a new oil filter, and refilling the cooling system. Finally, run the engine and check for oil pressure and leaks.
