To remove the timing chain and crankshaft sprocket, begin by detaching the oil pump body from the inside of the timing chain cover for 2009 and earlier models by removing five bolts. Use a scraper to eliminate all sealant and old gasket material from the pump body and engine block, then clean the mating surfaces with lacquer thinner or acetone. Next, take out the oil pressure relief valve from the pump body, remove the screws and bolt to separate the pump body from the timing cover, and lift out the drive and driven rotors while observing the marks on them. For 2010 and later models, temporarily install the crankshaft pulley to hold the oil pump chain while loosening the oil pump sprocket bolt, then remove the crankshaft pulley and the oil pump chain tensioner assembly, followed by the chain and both sprockets. Remove the lower oil pan, then access the engine's bottom to take out the three oil pump mounting bolts and the oil pump itself. Clean all components with solvent and inspect for wear and damage, checking the oil pressure relief valve piston sliding surface and valve spring, replacing them as a set if damaged. Measure the driven rotor-to-body clearance, rotor-to-cover clearance, and drive rotor tip clearance with a feeler gauge, comparing results to specifications; replace rotors as a set if any clearance is excessive, and check the timing chain guide oil jet for blockage. For installation, lubricate the drive and driven rotors with clean engine oil and place them in the pump body with the marks facing the timing chain cover, pack the pump cavity with petroleum jelly, and attach the pump cover, tightening the bolt and screws. Lubricate the oil pressure relief valve piston with clean engine oil and reinstall the valve components in the pump body, then reinstall the remaining parts in reverse order of removal. Finally, add oil if necessary, start the engine, and check for oil pressure and leaks.
