Toyota 16100-19115 Engine Water Pump Assembly

Drain the coolant.If your vehicle is equipped with air conditioning, loosen the idler pulley and remove the A/C compressor drivebelt.Loosen but do not remove the water pump pulley bolts.Loosen the alternator adjustment bolt and pivot nut. Pivot the alternator forward (toward the engine)and remove the drivebelt.Remove the water pump pulley.Remove the two nuts that attach the water inlet pipe flange to the water pump. To disconnect the water inlet pipe from the water pump, remove the two bolts that attach the water inlet pipe flange to the water pump, remove the inlet pipe bracket-to-block bolt and pull the inlet pipe away from the pump.Remove the water inlet pipe bracket bolt and pull the inlet pipe away from the water pump.Remove the dipstick tube support bracket bolt and pull out the dipstick tube. Plug the dipstick hole in the top of the oil pump.Remove the upper and middle timing belt covers.Remove the water pump bolts and the pump. 1Remove the water pump O-ring from the block. Always remove and discard the old 0-ring when replacing the pump.Install a new O-ring into the groove in the water pump mating surface on the block.Installation is the reverse of removal.

To determine if there is excessive side play in the water pump shaft, grasp the pulley firmly and move it up and down. If you notice significant movement or play, it suggests that the shaft or the bearing are worn and the pump should be replaced.
