Toyota 16100-19115 Engine Water Pump Assembly

A faulty water pump can cause engine overheating and damage due to poor coolant circulation. Two checks can determine if the pump is defective. The pump body has a "weep hole" underneath. If the pump seal fails, coolant drips from this hole, visible from under the engine. Raise the vehicle and use a flashlight to check for leakage. If the pump shaft bearing fails, it emits a squealing sound. Don't confuse this with drivebelt slippage. Check for shaft wear by moving the pulley up and down. If there's excessive side play, the shaft or bearing is worn and the pump needs replacing.

Drain coolant.Remove A/C compressor drivebelt if applicable.Loosen water pump pulley bolts.Loosen alternator bolt and nut, remove drivebelt.Remove water pump pulley.Detach water inlet pipe flange from water pump.Pull inlet pipe away from pump.Remove dipstick tube, plug hole.Remove timing belt covers.Remove water pump bolts and pump. 1Discard old O-ring.Install new O-ring on block.Reverse steps for installation.
