To replace the differential seal in a vehicle, start by raising the rear of the vehicle and supporting it on jackstands. Drain the differential lubricant and separate the Axle Shaft from the differential. Use a long punch and hammer to drive the differential flange gear out, catching it as it comes out. If needed, use a puller to remove the flange. Pry the seal out of the differential with a screwdriver. Install the new seal by using a large socket or pipe and a hammer, applying grease to the seal's lip. Finally, reverse the removal steps to complete the installation.

To replace the Differential Seal in the differential without disassembling or disassembling the differential itself, the procedure begins with raising the vehicle and draining the differential oil. Then disconnect and tie the drive shaft. Pry up the pinion shaft nut and determine the drive pinion bearing preload. Remove the nut and washer from the pinion shaft and use a gear puller to pull the mating flange off. Then carefully pry the oil seal out of the differential and clean the seal mounting area. The new seal is lubricated and tapped into place and the mating flange is cleaned and installed on the pinion shaft. Tap the flange into place and tighten the nuts while securing the wheel to prevent the pinion shaft from turning. Turn the flange and pinion shaft in all directions to ensure the bearings are seated and check the preload torque. Replace the shim on the pinion shaft if necessary. Reconnect the drive shaft, tighten the drain plug, and fill the housing with gear lubricant. Finally, lower the vehicle, take it for a test drive, and check for leaks around the differential mating flange.
