When servicing oxygen sensors or air/fuel ratio sensors, special care must be taken to avoid damaging the permanently attached pigtail and electrical connector. Grease, dirt, and contaminants should be kept away from the electrical connector and sensor end. Cleaning solvents should not be used, and rough handling or dropping should be avoided. Proper installation of the silicone boot is necessary to prevent melting. There are four oxygen sensors in total, with one upstream and one downstream sensor for each cylinder bank. The upstream sensors are located at the exhaust manifolds, while the downstream sensors are in the front exhaust pipe assembly. To replace the sensors, the ignition should be off, and the vehicle securely raised on jackstands. An oxygen sensor socket or special socket is needed for removal. Anti-seize compound can be applied to the threads for future removal.

The vehicle should be raised and securely placed on jackstands.
