Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts and raise the rear of the vehicle, supporting it securely on jackstands while blocking the front wheels to prevent rolling. Remove the wheels and support the rear axle with a pair of floor jacks, placing one under each axle tube. Disconnect the shock absorbers from the axle and the brake hoses from the brake lines, taking care not to damage the hoses if they remain connected. Slowly lower the rear axle housing just enough to remove the coil springs, ensuring not to damage the brake lines, parking brake cables, or wire harnesses for the rear wheel speed sensors; disconnect the rear wheel speed sensor harnesses if necessary. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the lower end of each coil spring is seated properly on the spring seat, and tighten all suspension fasteners to the specified torque, securing the brake line fittings if needed. If the brake lines were disconnected, bleed the brake system and finally, tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque.

Hold the damper rod with a wrench, remove the damper rod nut, and discard it.
