To remove the rear suspension components, start by loosening the rear wheel nuts, chocking the front wheels, selecting 1st gear, jacking up the rear of the car, and securely supporting it on axle stands before removing both rear roadwheels. Next, support the trailing arm section of the beam axle with a trolley jack, unscrew the shock absorber lower mounting nut, and take off the nut while recovering the washer, then slide the bottom end of the shock absorber off its mounting. Gradually lower the trailing arms on the jack until the spring tension is released, allowing the springs to be pulled out of their location; it is advisable to remove the jack and press down on the trailing arm to extract the spring while ensuring no excess strain is placed on the brake hose. Recover the upper and lower mounting rubbers of the spring, taking note of their fitting, and replace them if they are in poor condition. For refitting, reverse the removal process while ensuring the spring is properly engaged in the upper and lower mounts, and delay fully tightening the shock absorber lower mounting nut to its specified torque until the car is resting on its wheels.
