    Q:
How to remove and install the starter motor on 2003 through 2009 Toyota 4Runner? Posted by Customer
    A:
This is situated on the left rear side of the block especially for V6 models of the particular automobile. First of loosening the cable from negative battery terminal, the front part of the vehicle should be raised and supported on jack stands. Lift the rear engine under-cover and for the 2WD models if there are, then, turn the manifold support bracket anti-clockwise and take out the three bolts holding the support bracket. On the 4 WD models, have the left portion of the front exhaust pipe assembly taken off, and the five clips at the left rear inner fender splash shield released or disconnected as well as the steering column intermediate shaft. Next, unplug the electrical connectors from the starter motor/solenoid assembly including removal of the nut and then, the battery starter cable from the B+ terminal, as well as the electrical connector for the starter. Pull the starter motor mounting bolts and pull out the starter motor, reverse procedure for installation is practised and make sure that all the bolts are tightened perfectly. The starter location in the V8 models is at the upper section of the engine between the cylinder heads below the upper intake manifold. To begin with, you should terminals with the first one being the one that connects the cable with the negative battery terminal and the second one being the draining of the engine coolant. Take off the intake manifold, pull the Tabs of the engine harness clip on the opposite side from the coolant bypass pipe and unscrew the pipe retaining nut, and finally, pull out the coolant bypass pipe assembly. Next, raise the vehicle and remove the four nuts of the rear coolant bypass casting next, working to disconnect electrical connectors to the starter motor by pushing in the release of the tab and then, pulling on the nut holding the battery starter cable to the B+ terminal. Same to its removal, the starter motor mounting bolts need to be pulled out to eliminate the starter, while the process of installing is vice-versa, though special attention should be paid to the tightening of the mounting bolts. Last but not least, to conclude, add refresher to the cooling system.

    Q:
How to check Starter Motor and circuit on 2003 through 2009 Toyota 4Runner? Posted by Customer
    A:
Even if there is a problem in the starting circuit, do not conclude that it relates to the starter right away. First, clean and tighten the battery cable clamps, replace the battery cables if they are worn out and or damaged, and finally check the battery for damage and failure in carrying out all the tests and replace it if necessary. Also, inspect the starter solenoid wires and link, tightened starter bolts, ignition switch circuit functionality, and Park/Neutral Position switch or clutch start switch, with the shift lever in PARK or NEUTRAL or the clutch pedal depressed. Also, inspect the starter relay that is usually fitted in the fuse/relay box in the inside of the bonnet. If the starter motor does not spring to action the moment the ignition switch is turned to start, then one can test the battery voltage to the solenoid with an intention of checking if it is receiving the correct voltage signal or not. People should join a tester or voltmeter on the starter solenoid positive terminal; with the help of an assistant turn the ignition switch to the start position; if there is no voltage, look for all the fuses and relays in the starting circuit. If voltage is confirmed but the starter motor does not turn on, then you have to remove the starter and test it on the bench. If the starter turns over slowly then check the cranking voltage that is the voltage available to turn the starter and the current draw from the battery and find out that the battery voltage drops below the specified levels and the current draw is not within the right range. If, of course, the starter is getting the voltage but does not trigger, then remove the starter/solenoid assembly and check its solenoid on the bench. In rare cases make sure that the engine is not seized by trying to turn the crankshaft pulley. You need to connect the clamp of the jumper cables to the battery terminals and touch the S terminal of the starter/solenoid assembly with the cable to apply the battery voltage on the solenoid and to check the working condition of the internal starter/solenoid assembly. If the pinion drive comes out but does not rotate then the starter motor is as problem; if there is no movement but the solenoid sounds then the solenoid or motor is as issue. If this is the case and the plunger has extended and rotates the pinion drive, the problem is not with the starter/solenoid assembly.

    Q:
Where is the starter located in the 2010 Toyota Tundra? Posted by Customer
    A:
In VB models with 4.7L (2UZ-FE) engines, the starter is located on top of the engine between the cylinder heads, underneath the upper intake manifold. To remove it, you will need to remove the upper intake manifold.
