Q:
How to properly maintain and change the automatic transaxle, differential fluid and Filter in Toyota Celica? Posted by Customer
A:
To properly maintain the automatic transaxle and differential fluid in 1989 and earlier models, it's essential to drain and replace the fluid at specified intervals. Before starting, ensure you have the recommended transmission fluid and necessary tools, including jackstands, a 10mm Allen wrench, a drain pan capable of holding at least eight pints, newspapers, and clean rags. It's crucial to drain the fluid while it's hot, immediately after driving, as it's more effective at removing sediment. After warming up the vehicle, raise it on jackstands for access to the drain plugs. Be cautious of hot exhaust components while positioning your equipment underneath. Place the drain pan beneath the transaxle pan's drain plug, remove it with the Allen wrench, and ensure the pan is positioned to catch the draining fluid. After draining, securely reinstall the plug. Proceed to remove the transaxle pan bolts, lower the pan, and remove the filter. Clean the gasket surfaces, remove and clean the magnets, and reinstall them. Install a new gasket, place the pan in position, and secure it with bolts. For 1989 and earlier models, locate the differential drain plug, drain the fluid, and reinstall the plug. Add new fluid to the differential until it begins to run out of the filler hole. Lower the vehicle, add new fluid to the transaxle through the dipstick tube, and continually check the level with the dipstick. Start the engine, shift through all positions from P through L, return to P, and apply the parking brake. With the engine idling, check and add fluid up to the Cool level on the dipstick.
