Q: How to remove and install the Lateral Link on 1996 through 2002 Toyota 4Runner?
A: Lift the rear of the vehicle and place it on jack stands and block the front wheels so that the vehicle does not roll off the jack stands. Place the car on a lift, then set the car's rear axle and support it with a floor jack, then remove the load sensing proportioning and bypass valve from the axle. Next remove the nut and bolt connecting the upper end of the lateral rod to the frame bracket, and detaching the lower end of the lateral rod to the axle bracket in the same way. Take out the lateral rod and to reinstall it, do the converse of the procedure just stated while tightening the two nuts to recommended torque at normal ride height of the vehicle.
