Toyota MR2 Oil Pan

The Toyota MR2 Oil Pan is the main reservoir where engine oil is added beneath the engine to maintain lubrication of the moving parts. The Oil Pan, situated at the bottom of the engine block, collects oil that drains back after being circulated so that it may be drawn from the pump during normal operation of the engine. The design of the pan sump in a wet sump lubrication arrangement allows the oil to drain into a single chamber. However, the engine has to raise in this design to accommodate the depth of the sump. When vehicles accelerate, brake, or turn swiftly, oil in the sump sloshes away from the pickup. If this happens suddenly and there is severe motion, oil flow may be cut for a moment. The Oil Pan of the Toyota MR2 is also applied to mount the drain plug to remove fluids routinely. If your Oil Pan is damaged, it can quickly cause oil pressure to decrease and possible engine harm. Every Toyota MR2 relies on this simple yet essential device. Without a functioning Oil Pan, the Toyota engine could not maintain the lubrication cycle that keeps an MR2 running smoothly.

Toyota MR2 Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to properly remove and reinstall an oil pan in Four cylinder engine on Toyota MR2?
    A:
Warm the engine and drain the engine oil, then raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Remove the exhaust pipe and disconnect the oil cooler hose from the short metal pipe protruding from the banjo fitting on the front side of the pan, ensuring to tie the hose out of the way with the open end higher than the oil cooler to prevent oil from dripping. Remove all 19 bolts and both nuts from the oil pan, then carefully pry the pan loose from the bottom edge of the engine block and the oil pump housing, taking care not to bend the oil pan flange. Remove the oil strainer mounting nuts and bolts, then take out the strainer, which is attached to the block with two bracket bolts and to the oil pump housing with two pickup tube bolts. Pry the baffle plate loose from the block without warping it, and using a razor blade and scraper, remove all old ATV sealant material from the mating surface of the block, both sides of the baffle plate, and the oil pan flange. Wash the baffle plate, strainer, and oil pan in clean non-residue solvent and blow dry, avoiding solvents that affect painted surfaces. Apply a 3 to 5 mm wide bead of ATV sealant to the mating surface of the block, then position the baffle plate and oil strainer, using a new gasket between the pickup tube flange and the oil pump housing, and tighten the strainer mounting bolts and nuts to the specified torque. Apply a 3 to 5 mm wide bead of ATV sealant to the oil pan flange, ensuring the bead is offset approximately 6 mm at the end of the pan that bolts to the underside of the rear main oil seal retainer. Place the pan in position, apply a thin bead of sealant around each mounting bolt hole, then install all 19 bolts and two nuts, tightening them to the specified torque. Attach the oil cooler hose to the banjo fitting on the front side of the pan, install the exhaust system, add the specified oil to the engine, start the engine, and check the pan flange and oil cooler hose fitting for leaks.
