As to the 5-screw bolts on the axle shaft, first of all, the cable connection from the negative terminal of the auxiliary 12- v battery must be undone and initialization must be done when reconnecting the terminal. First engage the parking brake, thereafter, unscrew the lug nuts on the front wheel, and lift the car before placing the appropriate jackstands, then remove the wheel. Loosen the axle shaft / hub nut with a center punch and for vehicles manufactured since 2004 remove the left speed sensor connector. The axle shaft/hub nut needs to be removed for which follow the given steps: Place a prybar between two wheel studs such that the hub cannot turn, You may need a large breaker bar to loosen the nut. Next, to free it from the hub splines, slightly hit the end of the axle shaft using a soft-faced hammer or hammer & brass punch; generally, the force applied here should not be very hard otherwise it will affect either the axle shaft or the transaxle. If the axle shaft is still fixed, the brake disc may need to be dismantled, and then a two-jaw puller is required having achieved the above steps. There is an engine splash shield that should be eliminated and there will be a transaxle drain pan that will be used to collect any dripping lubricant. Actually, disengage the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle, take off the nuts and bolts that connect the balljoint to the control arm, and push the control arm down to free the two items. Sliding to the back of the vehicle pull out on the steering knuckle to detach the axle shaft from the hub in such a way that the inner cv joint is not hanging lest it be damaged. Gently detach the inner CV joint with your hands from the transaxle by loosening it. For disposal, reverse the installation process and make sure that the axle shaft is pushed in forcefully to hook the retaining ring into the inner CV joint, tighten the new and longer axle shaft/hub nut properly and stake the collar into the gear groove and tighten the lug nuts properly and check the transaxle oil level and replenish if required.
