Toyota Supra Pressure Plate

The clamping force that holds the clutch disc to the flywheel is provided by the Toyota Supra Pressure Plate. This fixes the engine power to the gearbox and tires. Inserted within the bell housing and bolted to the flywheel is the Pressure Plate. When engaged, it presses the disc, and when the pedal is pressed, it pulls away instantly, unlinking the engine and transmission for smooth gear swaps. Over the generations of Toyota sports coupes, the Pressure Plate has appeared in three main types. The standard Supra range employs a diaphragm configuration that utilizes a cone-shaped Belleville spring with finger cuts. As a result, pedal effort remains light while contact is even across the disc. Every Pressure Plate has different specs to adapt to pedal force while balancing comfort with grip. Borg and beck or long style versions, both classed as three-finger lever types, were early racing-minded trims. This arrangement employs several rows of coil springs alongside pivoting levers and uses the release bearing to push these levers to free the disc. This allows for the application of a firmer clamp that suits high torque applications. However, it does demand a heavier pedal effort. No matter the type, wear on Pressure Plates is second only to the clutch assembly. Timely replacement ensures any Toyota Supra Pressure Plate shifts crisply.

Toyota Supra Pressure Plate Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove Clutch Disc,Pressure Plate and Release Bearing on Toyota Supra?
    A:
To remove clutch components, the transmission must be removed. Use a clutch alignment tool to support the disc during removal. Mark the Flywheel and pressure plate for alignment. Loosen the pressure plate bolts, then remove the plate and clutch disc. Examine the flywheel, pilot bearing, and disc for wear. Replace the pilot bearing using a puller if needed. Check the clutch disc for damage and always replace the release bearing with it. Inspect the pressure plate for grooves. Clean and align all parts before installation. Tighten bolts in a diagonal pattern, lubricate the release bearing, and reinstall the transmission.
