A: To remove the rear console upper panel, remove heater control knobs and pry off control plate. Remove center cluster finish panel. On 4WD Tacoma models without One-Touch 2-4 Selector, remove two front console box screws, lift up box with transfer shift lever knob, unplug electrical connectors. On 4WD Tacoma models with One-Touch 2-4 Selector, remove three front console box screws and remove box. On 4WD 4Runner models without 2-4 Selector, remove transfer shift lever knob. On 4Runner models with 2-4 Selector, remove knob screw, knob, front console upper panel, unplug 2-4 Selector electrical connector, remove knob, clips, screws, and front console box. Remove front console upper panel. On models with 2-4 Selector, unplug 2-4 Selector electrical connector and remove knob. Remove clips, screws, and front console box. Raise vehicle and place on jackstands. Remove nut, washer, and disconnect shift control rod from shift lever. Unplug electrical connector, remove shift lever base mounting bolts, and remove Automatic Transmission Shift Levers. Installation is reverse of removal. Tighten shift control rod-to-shift lever nut.
