To check steering and suspension, rock the steering wheel gently with the vehicle stopped and wheels straight. Any movement could indicate worn components. Signs of faulty steering and suspension include excessive body movement, swaying, leaning, and binding when turning. Check shock absorbers by pushing down and releasing the vehicle at each corner. If it doesn't level within two bounces, shocks/struts need replacing. Raise the vehicle and check tires for wear and inflation. Inspect the universal joint and steering gear housing for grease leakage, and check dust seals and boots. Look for looseness, damage, or deteriorated bushings on all components. With an assistant, check for free movement in steering components. Check ball joints for play and replace if necessary. Inspect ball joint boots for damage and leaking grease. Wash CV boots to prevent deterioration. Pay attention to the outer CV boot as it wears out sooner. Inspect all boots for damage or leaking lubricant.

Rock the steering wheel to check for excessive free play, indicating worn components. Symptoms like body movement and binding during steering may suggest faulty parts. Test shock absorbers by pushing down on each vehicle corner and listen for suspension noises. Raise the vehicle to inspect tires for irregular wear and proper inflation. Check the universal joint, steering gear housing, dust seals, boots, steering linkage, tie-rod ends, and all suspension components for damage and looseness. Inspect ball joint boots for damage and leaking grease, and CV boots for tears and loose clamps.

If you haven't already cut them off, remove both boots. If working on a right-side driveaxle, cut off the clamp for the dynamic damper and slide the damper off. Measure its distance from the end of the driveaxle for reassembly.

If the inner CV joint is worn, you can install a new one on the old axleshaft.
