After supporting the engine, the right-hand engine mounting, water pump pulley, and water pump should be removed.

To remove the timing chain cover, start by draining the engine oil and removing the auxiliary drivebelt. Then, take off the cylinder head cover and spark plugs. Set the engine to TDC on No 1 cylinder and remove the crankshaft pulley. Disconnect the wiring plug from the power steering pressure switch and remove the power steering pump. Disconnect the wiring plug from the crankshaft position sensor and remove the VVT-i oil control valve. Remove the alternator and the throttle cable if applicable. Support the engine and remove the right-hand engine mounting. Remove the water pump pulley and the water pump. Finally, remove the bolts securing the timing chain cover and carefully pry or tap it off. To inspect the components, check the chain rear guide for wear and measure the timing chain length and sprocket diameters. If necessary, replace the chain, guides, and sprockets. Check the tensioner's condition and replace if needed. While the timing chain cover is off, consider replacing the crankshaft oil seal. To refit the components, oil the camshafts and fit the sprockets onto the camshafts. Set the timing chain sprocket marks at 20°ATDC and install the crankshaft sprocket. Turn the crankshaft and camshafts to align the sprocket timing marks. Install the timing chain, ensuring the gold links align with the sprocket marks. Fit the guides and tensioner, then clean and apply sealant to the timing chain cover. Install new O-rings and position the cover, tightening the bolts and nuts gradually. Finally, double-check the timing marks and torque all fasteners before allowing the sealant to cure.
