    Q:
How to remove and install the cylinder head in V6 engine on 2005 through 2009 Toyota Tacoma? Posted by Customer
    A:
It is applicable to either of the cylinder heads of this procedure. Start the procedure with parking the engine at TDC compression of cylinder no. 1 and then pulling the cable off the battery's negative terminal. Empty the engine oil and water, then unbolt the engine plenum, air cleaner housing, top portion of the intake manifold, and the valve cover or covers. Unplug the fuel supply and return hoses connected to the fuel rail, then remove the lower intake manifold with the fuel rail. Take off the assemble of coolant passage, situated at the back of the engine, along the ''Engine Coolant Temperature sensor and heater hose'' comprise of gaskets and an O-ring. Loosen and then remove front exhaust pipe and exhaust manifold from the car . Take out the timing chain and the sprockets which are camshaft timing oil control valve, oil control valve filter and VVT-i sensor. Before taking off the left cylinder head, firstly, if the two front bolts are as indicated below, they should be loosened, and then the cylinder head bolts should be loosened gradually and evenly in the sequence opposite to that in which they were tightened before taking off the cylinder head. Remove the old cylinder head gasket. The mating surfaces on the cylinder heads and block must be free from any contaminants; use a scraper and brake system cleaner. Pack the cylinders with clean shop rags to exclude dirt; look for damage on the block and head mating surfaces and correct them if found. Pursue the threads in the cylinder head bolt holes and blow clean with compressed air. Cut off the threads on each bolt and in turn check the diameter of the threads and replace one with a standard diameter of less than the standard size allowed. Put two tiny drops of RTV sealant on new cylinder head gasket and then place it on the engine block in such a way that the stamping lot will be on top. Position the cylinder head over the gasket and apply some oil on the threads of the cylinder head bolts before tightening and equally spacing them to the initial torque. Following this tighten each bolt a further 180 degrees in the sequence that has been marked on the bolt. When tightening the heads, when the left cylinder head is being installed, the two front head bolts to be tightened need to be tightened in locations opposite to where they were removed from. If both the cylinder heads were removed, place the other cylinder head now. Continue to fit the intake and exhaust camshafts, camshaft timing oil control valve, the oil control valve filter and the VVT-i sensor next followed by the timing chains before fitting the timing chain cover. The rest of the Installation procedure is opposite to the removal Procedure mentioned above. Replace the oil and coolant, reconnect the cable on the negative terminal of the battery, and restart the engine; look for leakage.

    Q:
How to remove and install the cylinder head in four cylinder engine on 2005 through 2009 Toyota Tacoma? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before removing the cylinder head, however, the entire connectivity of the negative terminal of the battery should be disconnected and engine coolant drained along with the removal of the valve cover, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, alternator, and the timing chain cover. Subsequently, remove the camshafts, rocker arms and lash adjusters with the coolant hoses coming from the cylinder head disconnected and all the remaining items like fittings, brackets, tubes, cables and hoses. Finally remove the wiring harness brackets, unscrew the cylinder head bolts in a star pattern to about 90 degrees from each other to facilitate easy removal of the bolts then tighten them to the required amounts in a way that is reverse to that of the previous step to avoid warping them. Remove the cylinder head from the engine block, alternatively striking lightly on the head block with a hammer and wooden beam that should not be placed between two surfaces of a gasket. When installing, it's pivotal to make sure mating surfaces of the cylinder head and block are clean hence one has to use gasket scraper accompanied by brake cleaner and also to prevent any debris from getting into the cylinders, the cylinders must be stuffed with rags which should be clean. For any clamping or mating surfaces you should look for any signs of damage and take thin particles to either side and compare them for warpage by using a precision straight edge and feeler gauges. Screw in the cylinder head bolts and chase further the threads in the bolt holes and clean with compressed air then re-thread each bolts. Check the outside diameter of every bolt and replace them with ones that are not below the recommended diameter. Using it-coat block and new head gasket with RTV sealant, properly aligning the gasket and carefully lowering the cylinder head onto the block and do not shift it. Coat the threads and under the bolt head with clean engine oil before putting and tightening the bolts and follow the torque steps in the same manner. Perform the last stages of installation in the reverse order of the steps above, add the coolant into the cooling system, change the engine oil and its filtering element after 4 hours later and the up to final running the engine to check whether there are leaks and road test.
