Before removing the cylinder head, however, the entire connectivity of the negative terminal of the battery should be disconnected and engine coolant drained along with the removal of the valve cover,
Intake Manifold,
Exhaust Manifold, alternator, and the timing chain cover. Subsequently, remove the camshafts, rocker arms and lash adjusters with the coolant hoses coming from the cylinder head disconnected and all the remaining items like fittings, brackets, tubes, cables and hoses. Finally remove the wiring harness brackets, unscrew the cylinder head bolts in a star pattern to about 90 degrees from each other to facilitate easy removal of the bolts then tighten them to the required amounts in a way that is reverse to that of the previous step to avoid warping them. Remove the cylinder head from the engine block, alternatively striking lightly on the head block with a hammer and wooden beam that should not be placed between two surfaces of a gasket. When installing, it's pivotal to make sure mating surfaces of the cylinder head and block are clean hence one has to use gasket scraper accompanied by brake cleaner and also to prevent any debris from getting into the cylinders, the cylinders must be stuffed with rags which should be clean. For any clamping or mating surfaces you should look for any signs of damage and take thin particles to either side and compare them for warpage by using a precision straight edge and feeler gauges. Screw in the cylinder head bolts and chase further the threads in the bolt holes and clean with compressed air then re-thread each bolts. Check the outside diameter of every bolt and replace them with ones that are not below the recommended diameter. Using it-coat block and new head gasket with RTV sealant, properly aligning the gasket and carefully lowering the cylinder head onto the block and do not shift it. Coat the threads and under the bolt head with clean engine oil before putting and tightening the bolts and follow the torque steps in the same manner. Perform the last stages of installation in the reverse order of the steps above, add the coolant into the cooling system, change the engine oil and its filtering element after 4 hours later and the up to final running the engine to check whether there are leaks and road test.
