For inspection, every six months, with the vehicle raised and securely supported on jack stands, inspect the rubber hoses that connect the steel brake lines with the front and rear brake assemblies. If any of these conditions are present, replace the hose with a new one to ensure the integrity of the brake system. For replacing the front brake hose, start by loosening the wheel lug nuts, raising the vehicle, and supporting it on jack stands. Remove the wheel. Unscrew the brake line fitting from the hose at the frame bracket using a flare-nut wrench. Remove the U-clip from the female fitting at the bracket and pass the hose through the bracket. Remove the banjo fitting bolt at the caliper end of the hose and separate the hose from the caliper. Check for copper sealing washers on either side of the fitting and replace them if necessary. Remove the U-clip from the strut bracket and feed the hose through the bracket. To install the hose, pass the caliper fitting end through the strut bracket and connect it to the caliper using the banjo bolt and copper washers. Ensure the locating lug on the fitting is engaged with the hole in the caliper and tighten the bolt to the specified torque. Push the metal support into the strut bracket and install the U-clip, making sure the hose is not twisted. Route the hose into the frame bracket, ensuring it is not twisted, and connect the brake line fitting. Install the clip and E-ring if provided, then tighten the fitting securely. Bleed the caliper, install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts to the proper torque. For replacing the rear brake hose, ensure that the wheel cylinder has been bled properly before proceeding. When replacing metal brake lines, use the correct parts and avoid using copper tubing. Purchase genuine steel brake lines that come prefabricated with the tube ends flared and fittings already installed. When installing the new line, ensure it is securely supported in the brackets and has enough clearance from moving or hot components. After installation, check the master cylinder fluid level and add fluid if necessary. Bleed the brake system and test the brakes carefully before driving the vehicle in traffic.
