To remove the oil pan from the car, start by jacking up the front of the car and supporting it on axle stands. Remove the engine lower cover panels underneath the car. Drain the engine oil and consider changing the oil filter. Remove the engine oil dipstick and set it aside. On automatic transmission models, remove the oil pan-to-transmission stiffener plate. Remove the bolts and nuts securing the steel oil pan to the aluminum oil pan. Use a wide-bladed tool to carefully break the seal between the lower and upper oil pan. Lower the oil pan while keeping it level to prevent oil spillage. Clean the sealant from the oil pan and engine mating faces, taking care not to damage the sealing surfaces. Check the oil pick-up strainer while the oil pan is off. To refit the oil pan, apply a bead of RTV sealant to the oil pan sealing surface and inside the bolt holes. Position the oil pan on the engine and secure it hand-tight. Tighten the oil pan nuts/bolts to the specified torque in a diagonal sequence and wipe away any excess sealant. Ensure the oil pan drain plug is securely refitted with a new sealing washer. Lower the car and allow the sealant to cure before refilling the engine with oil and starting the engine to check for leaks.

Use a wide-bladed tool to carefully break the seal between the lower and upper sump.
