Toyota 23221-0A040 Electric Fuel Pump

Before starting your Avalon, check the fuel level and listen carefully when you turn the key to "ON." A short whirring sound means the pump is working correctly if you hear it. Check first for problems with the IGN fuse, EFI fuse, C/OPN and EFI relays in the engine compartment fuse/relay box when you don't hear any sound. When looking at fuel pump issues, check for two things: power at the pump connector, which shows the pump needs fixing, and no power at the pump connector, which means you need dealer help to deal with your car's computer problem. You need a fuel pressure gauge and the correct connecting adapter before you can check the action of your vehicle's fuel injection system pump. First, let the fuel pressure release, detach the fuel line at the filter, and measure pressure on the newly created connection with the tester. First, make sure your clamps are secure, then turn off every accessory, and start the engine to watch the gauge. The pump runs normally for two seconds, and the pressure should be stable for five minutes without going any lower. Crack open the engine and let it run without speeding up; the pressure levels should stay normal. If your fuel pressure checks are outside the correct range, switch out the fuel pressure regulator if the pressure is too high. And look at the fuel filter and lines for blockages and damage if the pressure is too low. If pressure stays low after testing, you must replace both the pressure regulator and pump to keep additional problems from happening. After the test, take off the fuel pressure and remove the gauge.

To install the fuel pump module, reassemble it in reverse order and install the fuel pump/sending unit assembly back into the tank. Connect the fuel line and electrical connector, and complete the installation following the outlined removal process.

The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
