How to replace the rear crankshaft seal without removing the oil pan or seal retainer in V6 engine for the 2006 Toyota Tacoma?

Take off the transmission and the flywheel/ driveplate. All in all, the Crankshaft Seal can be replaced without taking out the oil pan or the seal retainer; however, this process is not advisable because the lip of the seal is rather rigid, the consequence of which is the possibility of improper installation or even destruction of the seal. If proceeding, remove the old seal by using the screwdriver, lubricate the crankshaft seal journal and the lip of the newly acquired Crankshaft Seal with multi-purpose grease and then gently insert this seal making sure that you do not rush in order to avoid damaging the part. Another method which is more recommendable, involves the detachment of the seal retainer then re-application of the rear seal on the oil pan. The two final bolts at the rear continue to keep the rear of the oil pan engaged with the bottom of the seal retainer; using a putty knife, carefully pry these two areas apart and thereafter, proceed to remove all the retainer-to-engine block bolts and then remove the seal retainer completely from the engine block; there may be gasket material and sealant stuck to the flange of the oil pan, ensure that you scrape out all. Place the seal and retainer assembly between two wooden blocks on a workbench and using a screwdriver drive the previous seal from the back end. Seat the new Crankshaft Seal into the retainer with a wooden block or a piece of pipe of appropriate outer diameter which is slightly smaller than the seal, but not in such a way as to cock the seal in its retainer bore. Coat the circumference of crankshaft seal journal and the lip of the new Crankshaft Seal with multi-purpose grease, spread a 2 to 3 mm ATV sealant around the retainer flange since there is no gasket between it and the block. Thereafter, evenly apply force together with a smoothly tapered object on the seal and retainer onto the crankshaft until the seal lip is stiff then engage the retainer bolts and tighten them to a recommended torque. As to the rest of the installation, it proceeds in the reverse of the process of removal.
