Apply multi-purpose grease to the crankshaft seal journal and the lip of the new seal, then carefully press the new seal into place. Work the stiff lip onto the seal journal of the crankshaft with a smooth object like the end of an extension as you tap the seal into place. Don't rush it, or you may damage the seal.
