To check the Cooling Fan Assembly, note that it is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) based on inputs from the
Coolant Temperature Sensor. If the fan motor is not functioning when the engine gets hot or when the air conditioner is on, follow these steps. First, check the fuses and fusible links related to the fan. Then, disconnect the electrical connector at the motor and use fused jumper wires to directly connect the fan to the battery. If the fan still doesn't work, replace the fan motor. If the motor tests fine but remains inoperative, the issue may lie in the relays, fuse, wiring, or PCM. For removal, start by disconnecting the negative battery cable and the wiring connector at the fan motor. Disconnect the coolant overflow hose from the top of the
Radiator. Unbolt the fan shroud from the radiator and lift the fan/shroud/coolant reservoir assembly from the vehicle. While holding the fan blades, remove the fan retaining nut (and spacer if applicable). Unbolt the fan motor from the shroud. During installation, follow the reverse order of removal.
