Acquire two bolts 6 x 1.0 mm in size, and they should be 16 to 20 mm in length, and are known as service bolts before embarking on this procedure. Initially, the valve cover should be unbolted, while the number 1 cylinder of the engine should be set to TDC with the alignment marks of the camshaft drive and driven gears being straight on the cylinder head surface. Check, the camshaft thrust clearance with the help of a dial indicator, if they are over the service limit, replace the camshaft or cylinder head. Take out the distributor, and also the
Timing Chain tensioner, before painting the link of the timing chain that is going to interact with the timing mark on the camshaft sprocket. Using a wrench, loosen and reinstall the intake camshaft's camshaft sprocket bolt and the distributor drive gear; next, safely erradicate the camshaft sprocket and chain. Exhaust camshaft needs to be dismantled in sequence while being laid horizontally in a manner that does not harm the cylinder head. Swivel the camshaft horizontal till the service bolt hole on the sub-gear is upright and fix the service bolt, then align the timing marks thirty five degrees above the horizontal position. Some of the bearings are fitted into the block by loosening the bearing cap bolts in the imparted sequence to allow the camshaft to rise. The same procedure should be done to the intake camshaft, by aligning the timing mark line to the 25 degree position. Clean the shims and the oil from the valve lifter shims, and then you label them as well as remove the lifters but ensure that the shims are with their corresponding lifters. Mount the intake camshaft in the vise and let, release tension there and remove the snap-ring and certain other things. The free length of the camshaft gear spring should also be measured and each lifter as well as cam lobes examined for wear. Record the diameter of each journal and check oil clearance with the aid of Plastigage. This can be done by putting the caps back momentarily, and it will give you the backlash measurement of the camshaft gears. To install, lubricate the lifters and the camshaft part; place the intake camshaft in place; and screw the bearing caps in the proper orientation and with the right amount of pressure. Put back together the pieces of the crank and sub-gear of the exhaust camshaft and make sure that the gears of the camshaft are lined up properly and be fitted back in their place. Screw the bearing caps in a little tighter and rotate the camshafts moving the service bolt in an orderly fashion until it is removed. Last of all, ensure that the camshaft timing marks coincide with the TDC, fit the camshaft sprocket and the camshaft chain, and replace the timing chain tensioner, overhaul the whole process in a reverse manner, and adjust the valve clearance if required.
