Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts, raise the rear of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands while blocking the front wheels. Remove the wheel and ensure the parking brake is completely released before removing the brake drum. Take out the parking brake shoes and disconnect the cable from the parking brake lever. Remove the cable retaining bolt from the backing plate and pull the cable through it. Unbolt the cable clamps from the trailing arm and floor pan. Remove the center console, unbolt the SRS control unit, and take off the center console rear mounting bracket. Detach the cable(s) from the equalizer and push the cables through the floor pan. For installation, reverse the removal steps and apply a light coat of grease to the portion of the cable end that engages with the equalizer. Adjust the parking brake. For the equalizer-to-brake lever cable, remove the center console again, and with the lever in the down position, take off the locknut and the adjusting nut. Unbolt the SRS control unit and remove the center console rear mounting bracket. Disconnect the cable from the equalizer, remove the bolts, and detach the parking brake lever along with the cable. Bend the cable retaining claw up to detach the cable from the lever. For installation, reverse the removal steps and apply a light coat of grease to the portion of the cable end that engages with the equalizer, followed by adjusting the parking brake.
