To remove the rack and pinion assembly, first park the vehicle with the front wheels straight and remove the wheels, engine under covers (if applicable), and power steering pressure and return lines. Mark the relationship of the lower universal joint to the rack and pinion input shaft, remove the lower intermediate shaft pinch bolt, and separate the
Tie Rod End from the steering knuckle arms. Remove the stabilizer bar bushing retainer bolts and lift the stabilizer bar to access the rack and pinion mounting nuts. Knock out the mounting bolts and pull the rack and pinion assembly out from the left side. Check the mounting grommets for wear and replace them if necessary. To install, raise the rack and pinion into position, connect the U-joint, and install the mounting bolts and nuts. Connect the tie-rod ends, U-joint pinch bolt, and power steering hoses, and refill the power steering pump reservoir with the recommended fluid. Reattach the bracket to the top of the rack and pinion assembly.
