Toyota Supra Fuel Pump

It is a Fuel Pump which plays one of the major roles to guarantee the stability and the power of Toyota Supra series. Intended to successfully transfer fuel from the particular tank to the engine's carburetor or the fuel injection system, the Fuel Pump effectively contributes to the pressure and filtration that is required to ignite fuel in the combustion chamber. Different generations of Toyota Supra have applied both mechanical and electric pumps for fuel delivery, however, electric types are now more common because of the ability to deliver much higher pressures, 40-60psi or even more. This change is due to the constant strive of Toyota in developing better technique on engine and fuel management. Apart from circulation of fuel, an electric Fuel Pump is applied, which also comes into direct contact with fuel, ensures cooling and comes equipped with numerous safety factors that are overseen by the ECUs, in this way, the overall safety of the Toyota Supra was increased. Fitment with generations A70 and A80 of Toyota Supra proves compatibility and longevity of the Fuel Pump. The second proof of its dependability is the recognition from the experts like motor trend's import car of the year and being in car and driver's ten highly. Overall, the Fuel Pump is one of the optimal and improved models in the automotive market, and it has a very important role in boosting the performance and reliability of high-performance cars for both hobbyists and general users.

Toyota Supra Fuel Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to check the operation of a fuel pump on Toyota Supra?
    A:
To check the fuel pump operation, turn on the ignition switch without starting the engine. For models from 1979 to 1986, bridge both terminals of the fuel pump check connector with a jumper wire; for 1987 and later models, bridge terminals +B and Fp of the service connector. Listen for fuel return noises from the Fuel Pressure Regulator, verifying pressure in the appropriate hoses for each model. For models from 1984 onward, remove the fuel filler neck cap, open the trap door, and listen for a whirring sound while an assistant bridges the terminals. After removing the jumper wire and closing the cap, turn off the ignition switch. If the fuel pump isn't operating, inspect the EFI 15-amp fuse, ignition 7.5-amp fuse, EFI main relay, circuit opening relay, fuel pump, and wiring. For the fuel pressure check, use a fuel pressure gauge with an 8 mm banjo fitting. Relieve the fuel pressure and ensure the battery voltage is 12 volts or more before detaching the negative battery cable and the electrical connector from the cold start injector. Place a container under the cold start injector pipe banjo bolt, remove it, and attach the fuel pressure gauge. Wipe any gasoline that leaks, reattach the negative battery cable, place the transaxle in Neutral or Park, and apply the parking brake. Bridge the appropriate terminals for your model to hear the fuel pump running and check the gauge for pressure. If the fuel pump doesn't run, the pump or control circuit may be faulty. Start the engine, detach the vacuum sensing hose from the pressure regulator, and measure the fuel pressure at idle, comparing it to the specific fuel pressure. If the pressure is high, check for obstructions in the fuel return line; if low, inspect for leaks and pinch the return hose to determine if the fuel pressure regulator is malfunctioning. Reattach the vacuum sensing hose, measure the fuel pressure again, and verify it remains at 21 psi or more for five minutes after turning off the engine. Relieve the fuel pressure, detach the negative battery cable, carefully remove the fuel pressure gauge, reattach the cold start injector pipe banjo fitting with new sealing washers, reconnect the electrical connector, and ensure to clean up any spilled gasoline before starting the engine and checking for leaks.
