    Q:
How to remove and install the oil pan in four cylinder engine on 2005 through 2009 Toyota Tacoma? Posted by Customer
    A:
The oil pan cannot be removed from these vehicles without firstly having to remove the engine of the car. The first step to follow, before lowering the oil pan, is to unfasten the cable, which connects the battery's negative terminal. Then, next, you should remove the engine and then you should undo the bolts and nuts situated on the lower part of the oil pan. If the oil pan is stuck, use a soft-face hammer steadily to hit the suspected places until it pops off or use the knife blade to force it in the joint and hammer round the seal, without pulling or using a screwdriver. The stamped steel lower oil pan has a multiple row sealing flange and if this flange is distorted, this can be easily unwrapped by putting it on a flat surface and using a hammer and a punch to flatten the distorted section. After detaching the lower pan, extract the nuts and bolts holding the outlet of the oil pump pick-up tube and strainer and then, eliminate the instalment and the gasket as well. Next, unscrew the bolts/nuts holding the upper oil pan and if they are tight, you can use the above procedure to loosen the holding mechanism. For installation, one has to scrape off all the used gasket material and sealant from the block and the oil pan surfaces with a scraper and wash the mating surfaces with the brake system cleaner. Make sure that the threaded bolt holes are clean, then spread a 1/8-of-an-inch wide strip of RTV sealant on the oil pan flange, while it must go inside of the holes for bolts, and install it in 5 minutes. Finally the upper oil pan is to be bolted into position with the fasteners tightened in a triangular moat to a torque of 15 lb. ft. Check the oil pump pick-up tube assembly for crack and if it is has a blocked strainer then replace new gasket for tube assembly and tighten the bolts of tube assembly. Place 1/8-inch of RTV sealant on the lower oil pan just inside the bolt holes, then bolt it into place and use nuts and bolts to tighten them in a criss-cross fashion to the recommended torque. On average, it is recommended that no oil be added for 4 hours after installation of the filter, whereas the rest of the installation process should be done in a backward manner to that of removal. Finally, install the engine.

    Q:
What are the steps to remove the oil pan for the 2009 Toyota Tacoma? Posted by Customer
    A:
    1. Remove the bolts and nuts that secure oil pan No. 2 (the smaller stamped steel pan) to the larger cast aluminum oil pan. 2. If oil pan No. 2 is stuck due to RTV sealant, tap it loose with a rubber-tipped mallet or carefully cut the sealant with a putty knife and hammer, ensuring not to damage the mating surfaces. 3. Remove the two oil pump pickup tube/strainer mounting nuts and the pickup/strainer assembly. 4. Remove the four bolts that attach the flywheel housing cover and then remove the cover. 5. Remove the 17 bolts and 2 nuts that secure the oil pan to the engine block, along with the 4 stud bolts. 6. Carefully pry the oil pan loose from the engine block, only prying in the small cutout areas along the side of the pan.
