The Park/Neutral position switch blocks engine start when the car isn't in Park or Neutral; if the engine starts in any other gear, either adjust or replace this switch. After raising your car and putting jackstands under it, disconnect the electrical connector from the switch. Using an ohmmeter with the ignition key off, check if the switch inside the connector shows continuity across the right terminals - if not, attempt to adjust it back to working order and check again; replace the switch if it still doesn't work. To fix it, put the shift lever into Neutral, lift the car, and stand it on jackstands. Loosen the switch's bolt, match the groove up with the neutral basic line, hold the switch there, and tighten the bolt again. To replace the switch, pull the electrical plug away, remove the lock nut by hand, loosen the bolt holding the switch in place, and take out both the bolt and switch. You install back into place, fixing the switch and making sure its electrical connections work.

The switch, marked 'N' is mounted on the right hand side of the casing and limits starter ENGAGEMENT to NEUTRAL/PARK positions and also activates the BACK-UP LIGHTS in REVERSE position. In case the engine starts and the shift lever is in any other position other than Park or Neutral, then the switch either needs to be adjusted or replaced. First, turn the shift lever to Neutral; next safely jack up the car and support it on jack stands. Turn the bolts on the neutral start switch counterclockwise to loosen it and further turn them clockwise to tighten and position the grove to the neutral basic line on the housing. Rotate the switch to have the groove in the end of the control shaft engage with the vertical index line in the switch before tightening the bolts. For proper adjustment, the continuity should be checked between the terminals that have been defined for switch electrical connector; if the switch fails the continuity test it means it has to be replaced.

Putting the car in Park or Neutral prevents the engine from starting; if the engine starts up in any other gear, check the Park/Neutral switch first because a bad one or poor adjustment might be the issue. Raise your vehicle and stand it on jackstands, taking off the electrical connection from the Park/Neutral switch. Verify switch performance by measuring connection resistance on the switch's side of the connector when key is off, using an ohmmeter; adjust if possible and test again before accepting the need to replace faulty switch. First, put your in-center shift lever into Neutral position. Lift up the vehicle, prop it on jackstands, then loosen the electrical switch's holding bolt. Align the notch and neutral connection points, hold the switch this way, and tighten the bolt. On T100 vehicles, to replace the system, loosen the oil cooler pipe clamps, disconnect the oil pipes, unfasten the Park/Neutral position switch cable plug, pull off the lock washer, and loosen the switch's holding nut. To replace the Park/Neutral switch, loosen the holding bolt and switch here in the reverse order you removed it ensure the switch works correctly when installed.

To adjust the switch, you should place the shift lever in Neutral and loosen the switch retaining bolt. Then, align the groove and neutral basic line, and tighten the bolt while holding the switch in position.
