- Q: How to check the Turn Signal Flasher and Dimmer Switch on Toyota MR2?A:To check the turn signal/hazard flasher relay, locate it under the left side of the dashboard above the fuse panel, detach it from the spade connector on top, pull it down, and unplug it from the electrical connector. Remove the relay and connect the positive lead from the battery to terminal 3 and the negative lead to terminal 2. Connect a 55W bulb between terminals 1 and 2 to verify that the bulb flashes on and off; if it does not perform as expected, replace the relay. Additionally, observe the turn signal lights, which should flash 75 to 95 times per minute; if one light has an open circuit, the flashes will exceed 120 times per minute, and side lights will increase by about 10 flashes per minute. For the turn signal/hazard flasher switch, located in the steering column assembly, unscrew and unplug the electrical connector at the lower end of the column, then use an ohmmeter to check continuity between the connector terminals, replacing the switch if continuity is not as specified. The headlight dimmer switch, also in the steering column assembly, can be checked similarly without removal, but the shared electrical connector must be unscrewed and unplugged before using an ohmmeter to check continuity. If continuity is not as specified, replace the switch. For replacement, remove the steering wheel and the six screws holding the upper and lower steering column cover halves together, then remove the lower dash panel. Disconnect the cable tie securing the wire harness to the steering column, remove the retaining screws for the electrical connector, and unplug it. Use a miniature screwdriver to pry up the locking lugs and pull the terminal out from the rear. Remove the four mounting screws for the switch assembly and take it out of the steering column. If replacing the headlight dimmer switch, remove three mounting screws; for the turn signal/hazard flasher switch, remove two screws. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring that the terminals of the wire harness are securely locked in the connector lug.
