Toyota MR2 Wiper Switch

The Toyota MR2 Wiper Switch allows the driver to clean the windscreen of rain and debris instantly for clear visibility in every season. The Wiper Switch, located on the stalk of the steering column, connects fingertip movements to the electric motor of the car's wiper. Thus, a light upward click brings intermittent passes while a deeper click calls for steady low or brisk high-speed cycles. The early three-step Wiper Switch on the MR2 gives the settings off, slow, and fast. Later MR2 models received a switch for a variable-intermittent version that, with the addition of a rotating collar and a switch on the stalk, allowed fine-tuning delay intervals for drizzle without adding any complexity to the operation. Regardless of the year of manufacture, all Toyota models have washer control on the same lever. A squeeze of the lever sprays washer fluid and wipes, which are timed to follow after the spray action. The operation of the Wiper Switch is based on the dedicated circuits of switched power, which the wiper motor uses to clear the screen quickly and thereby make the driver more attentive. This dependable Wiper Switch features durable construction that usually lasts the lifetime of the Toyota sports coupe.

Toyota MR2 Wiper Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Check and Replace the Wiper Switch on Toyota MR2?
    A:
The windshield wiper and washer switch is located inside the right pod of the instrument cluster finish panel, which must be disconnected from the dash panel to access the electrical connector for unplugging. To check the switch, unplug the electrical connector from the backside of the switch housing and use an ohmmeter to check continuity between terminals; if continuity is not as specified, the switch should be replaced. For an operation check in intermittent mode, connect the positive lead from the battery to terminal 2 and the negative lead to terminal 4, then connect the voltmeter leads accordingly and turn the wiper switch to the intermittent position to verify battery voltage. After connecting a probe to terminal 4, it should be connected to terminal 2 and then back to terminal 4, with the tester needle indicating 0 volts for 3 to 5 seconds before returning to its original position. To replace the switch, remove the switch knob by pulling it straight off, then take off the locknut using a deep, six-point socket before removing the switch housing, with installation being the reverse of removal.
